Position Overview
Triangle Day School is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated teacher assistant to join our lower school education team. TDS is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation and execution of classroom lessons and materials in collaboration with the head teacher
- Teach and plan small group lessons in math, language arts, and other content areas
- Prepare classroom materials (e.g., make copies, staple and hole-punch papers, construct classroom signs, refill classroom supplies as needed)
- Transition and support students in various classes elsewhere on campus (fine arts, physical education, technology, science lab, etc.)
- Be fully present and actively support students during whole group instruction, discussion, projects and lectures
- Participate in field trips and special events when possible/appropriate
- Assist with supporting the classroom needs when your head teacher is absent
- Help with homework organization, following the system established by the head teacher
- Support the dismissal of students outside the school at the end of each day
- Attend full faculty/staff meetings, as well as relevant lower school faculty meetings
- Ensure a commitment to the school’s DEI mission and goals by participating in continuous professional development for learning differences, behavior management, and anti-bias of all kinds
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children, particularly those ages 6-10, is a significant plus
- Passion for nurturing the curiosity and creativity of students
- Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues across divisions and departments
- Familiarity with instructional technology, both for teaching and communication
- Creativity to make daily tasks interesting and enjoyable for children to help them learn new skills
- Resourcefulness to explain information in a way that matches a student’s learning style
- Excellent communication skills with people of different ages and backgrounds, from parents and children to colleagues
- Patience to remain calm and positive while working with children of different developmental backgrounds
- Attention to detail to spot when a child is having difficulty with something or needs assistance
Additional Details
- Ten-month year (August-June)
- Salary in accordance with certification and experience (starting salary of $38,000 per year)
- School contract hours run Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
