This year, the middle school added a number of teachers to our staff, including Josh Hyden. Josh used to teach Latin at TDS, and we’re excited to have him back, bringing his optimism, compassion, and flexibility with him. You can learn more about Josh in his own words below.

What is your previous teaching experience?
After college I began substitute teaching in Louisville, Kentucky for Jefferson County Public Schools. During this time I participated in an Archaeology Field School through the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. During my second season, I was granted my own trench and students for that summer. This is my second year teaching at TDS; however, there is a gap of 6 years between my first and second year.

What attracted you to Triangle Day School?
TDS adheres to all of the core values that I personally embrace. These values lend themselves to nurturing the true sense of a community, and I felt that in an environment such as TDS, I would also be able to achieve a high level of personal and professional growth.

What do you like about TDS?
I enjoy the people and the welcoming spirit that seem to be ingrained and woven into the fabric that is TDS. There is an ease about the halls that offers a gentle space for everyone to feel comfortable being who they are or who they want to become.

Family and Pets?
I have a partner named Aubrey and a stepson named Redmond. We, as a family, have an older dog named Jules and a 5 year old Weimaraner named Zellie.

Hobbies and Interests?
I enjoy almost any form of physical activity, whether that be in a gym, a pool, or on a trail. I love to move! Most weekends, you’ll find us as a family on a trail at the Eno walking our two nutty beasts.

Favorites?
Beverage: Coffee first thing in the morning
Movie: What About Bob?
Durham Restaurant: Gocciolina
Mountains or Ocean: Depends on the season
Favorite Musician: Neil Young or Springsteen

Hopes and Dreams?
I hope I can give back to my community in as many ways as possible and leave this world a better place than I found it.

Fun Facts?
I drove 13,000 miles in 2 months with my grandmother in tow. Our goal was to tour as much of the United States within that 2 month window.
