I want to start by commending all of our families and students for the amazing job they’ve done with transitioning to distance learning! I know this is a time of stress and uncertainty, but everyone has approached this situation with resilience and compassion, and I’m amazed that we’ve been able to jump in right where we left off before spring break.

Though I dearly miss seeing my students every day, online learning has offered new opportunities to get to know them in a new environment, something which all of the teachers have enjoyed. Whether it’s show and share during Mrs. Khan’s advisory, Coach Morrison hearing about students getting their families involved in her daily fitness challenges, or just generally getting to see their new “school” environment through Google Meet each day, we feel like we’re learning more about the kids every day. When I asked the teachers what their favorite part of distance learning was so far, I heard this theme again and again:[su_row][su_column size=”1/3″]

Students showing off their “stuffies” on Google Meet

[/su_column][su_column size=”2/3″] “My favorite part of online learning has been during advisory today when everyone shared a toy or stuffy, and the 8th graders showed their special stuffed animals and shared the names of them and were appalled that some stuffed animals that were shared by others did not have names.”
– Señor Dowd

“I love that my advisory has decided that time together is the most important, and so have decreed that “advisory should be kindergarten.” They take their weekly game time, show and tell, and read aloud story time very seriously (and I especially love that they think taking turns through a Choose Your Own Adventure book might be hilarious).”
– Ms. Carnes

“I’ve enjoyed seeing my students in a different environment. From toy collections to pets to screaming younger siblings, this experience has helped me see my students in a new light!”

We’re excited to continue this distance learning journey with the kids!
