Welcome to TK!

Transitional Kindergarten is a magical place where students sing and dance, learn letter sounds and life skills, celebrate everything (even talking like pirates!), and explore the world around them with joy and curiosity. This magic can only occur with the guidance and inspiration of Ms. DeLaTorre and Mrs. Wallace. Would you like to experience this enchantment for yourself? Come join the TK class as they share a typical day below.

A Typical Day in TK

8:15 AM
We arrive in the classroom and unpack our bookbags. Once our things are put away, we find an activity to keep our hands busy.

8:30 AM
We start our day with Morning Meeting. We greet our classmates, learn about the calendar and the weather, and count the days we’ve been in school. Ms. DeLaTorre tells us about our schedule for the day.

9:00 AM – Literacy
We practice our Alphabet sounds with our whole bodies. The teacher writes the letter of the week and reads stories to us. We share items that start with the letter of the week. This week we shared koalas, keys, and kangaroos!

9:30 AM – Snack
We take turns bringing a snack for the whole class. Our favorite snacks are popcorn and Pirate’s Booty.

10:00 AM – Complements
We love to learn about Art, Music, Spanish, Science, Technology, PE, and Reflections. We are always on the move with at least two complement classes a day!

11:00 AM – Math
We count, make quantities, measure, and graph. This week we graphed our apple taste test. Most people liked green apples.

11:30 AM – Recess
We love to climb and play on the merry-go-round.

12:00 PM – Lunch
We eat at picnic tables in the shade of the trees. Sometimes, we get to watch the older kids playing during their recess.

12:30 PM – Rest
All this learning and fun can be tiring! After lunch, we are ready to stretch out and take a good rest.

1:15 PM – Pack Up
We review our homework and pack our bags for the end of the day.

1:30 PM – Social Studies
We are learning how to get along and work with others. Sometimes we spend time with our second-grade buddies.

2:00 PM – Centers
This is our time to PLAY! We have a free choice of playdough, housekeeping, blocks, art, Legos, and more. Practicing, laughing, activities – Yippee!

2:45 PM – Clean Up & Closing Circle
We gather on the carpet to express gratitude for someone who made a difference in our day.

3:00 PM – Dismissal
We are so happy to see our families and share the many things we learned today.
