With the first full week of school almost complete, our students are starting to get into the middle school routine! Each morning, we begin the day with an advisory session that might involve team building, character education, working on organizational skills, watching the CNN News and discussing current events, reading, or journaling. This Tuesday, the middle school had its first extended advisory of the year.
Once a month, the middle school has an extended character education lesson to supplement our daily advisory time. Our first extended advisory focused on the TDS core values, with a special focus on compassion. We talked about the importance of compassion and kindness and discussed what to do when others are unkind. We also discussed the differences between playful teasing, peer-to-peer conflict, and bullying, and how to tell when you or others are crossing the line into unkind behavior. We’re excited to continue with our character education curriculum this year, which will focus on community service and furthering TDS’s diversity and inclusion goals. It should be a great year!
