Students in grades 3-5 are learning the basics of 3-D printing. In a recent project, students investigated the process of converting 2-D drawings made on paper into 3-D printed shapes. Each student made one connector and combined it with the rest of the class into unique and changeable sculptures. Students designed an image by freehand, took a photo of it, converted the jpg file to an svg file, imported it to a 3-D program (Tinkercad), changed the dimensions of the 3-D image, and exported it as a stl file for printing.
The class sculptures are on display outside of the tech lab, so please come take a look! Ms. Cabrera will be expanding next year’s technology program so that K-8 will have access to 3-D printing during the year.
