Students in grades 1-5 have been working on creating their Student Treasures books. Student Treasures provides an activity that motivates students and makes writing fun. Students pride themselves on creating memories and cherished keepsakes through these one-of-a-kind hardbound books.
In 1st and 2nd grades, students contribute to a class book, while 3rd-5th graders create their own books. Each class chooses a different topic or theme. 1st graders wrote about a special moment in their lives, while 2nd graders were given the prompt: “I am a change maker…” Students in 3rd grade created “A to Z, All About Me” books, while 4th graders chose a story from their journals this year. Poetry is the theme for 5th graders who are writing about 5th grade memories. They have learned about many types of poems, from acrostics to limericks, and incorporated them into their books. All students also illustrate their writing. The Student Treasures program allows students to practice the writing process. They pre-write, draft, edit, revise, and illustrate work that is published. It will be exciting to see the final products in May.
