Dear TDS Families,

I hope summer has brought new experiences and milestones, memorable family moments, and ample time for daydreaming. Thank you to those families who participated in the TDS Summer Program; this was a record-breaking year for enrollment, and it was wonderful to see so many bodies and minds in motion.

We’ve been busy on the facilities front with planned projects (insulating the main building, resurfacing the gym floor, swapping classrooms in the HAC, and more) as well as some surprises (removing a Bradford pear tree after two limbs failed in The Brij). In these and other ways, we are busily preparing for the arrival of our students on Tuesday, August 25, and we’re excited for you to see many changes upon your return to campus.

Teachers have been busy this summer as well. Twenty-seven summer work grant recipients are generating curricular programs that will have an immediate impact on your children’s experiences in the classroom.

Speaking of your children, we are so excited to begin a new journey with them in a few weeks. One of the energizing things about school is the infusion of diverse talents, personalities and perspectives that comes every August in the form of new families. This year, we welcome 55 new students and 23 new families to TDS.

This summer, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with several new parents, to welcome them to TDS, learn about their family, and answer their questions. Some consistent themes running through these conversations have been their (your) interest in our core values, your focus on raising good human beings, and your understanding that experiencing joy at school is a wonderful catalyst for lifelong learning. Welcome, and welcome back, to TDS, and thank you for the opportunity to challenge, nurture, and learn alongside your children.
