COVID-19 Update and Cancellations
June 1 Announcement

It’s official! TDS Summer Program’s opening day is June 29th. After much careful consideration and thought, we have decided that we are ready to open our doors with safety and health being our top priority. We will only offer in-person camps. We look forward to your family joining us and are honored that you trust our commitment to provide a safe, warm, and fun-filled environment.

May 15 Announcement
We hope that this email finds you well and are staying safe during this time. Thank you for your patience as we work with our administrative team to determine which, if any, summer campus activities will take place. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we have decided that it is in the community’s best interest to cancel our camps for the weeks of June 15 and June 22. In addition, all sports camps along with before and after care are cancelled for the summer. We will make a decision regarding camps beginning on June 29th in the next few weeks. Several important factors have contributed to our decision to cancel June camps.
This includes:
Ensuring that we follow required safety guidelines from NC DHHS which will take time to prepare and train teachers
Providing distance learning professional development opportunities for TDS teachers in June, which may require the use of our campus and training of some of our Summer Program teachers during that time
Teacher comfortability of leading camps during “stay at home” orders

Initially, we eliminated the possibility of virtual camps for several reasons, including teacher experience with virtual teaching. After two months of immersing in distance learning, some teachers expressed interest in offering an exceptional virtual experience with synchronous and asynchronous activities to fill a full camp day for their students. We are looking into the possibility of offering some virtual camps this summer for ages 7 to 12 but need feedback from you (read below).

Virtual Camp General Information

Teachers will provide a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activities, enough to fill a 6 hour camp day (9:00am to 3:00pm) with breaks for snack/lunch and some free time. A sample schedule is included in the form below. We will use the Google Classroom and Google platform to conduct all activities. Virtual camps will be offered at a reduced tuition cost of $185. This will allow the student to purchase necessary materials or ingredients needed for the camp.

If your child is between the ages of 7 and 12, please complete this virtual camp interest form informing us whether you are or are not interested in a virtual learning experience.

If transferring to a virtual camp is not appealing to you, a full refund minus the $10 administrative fee will be sent to you. We are looking to process refunds at the beginning of July in order to complete them in one big bulk. You should see the refund go back to the same credit card or bank account that was used at the time of initial purchase.

While we are sad not to have the opportunity to offer our camps for the weeks of June 15 and 22, we know this decision is in the best interest for the health and safety of our community. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at

Important notes:

All sports camps cancelled for the summer
Before and after care cancelled for the summer
June 15 and June 22 camps are cancelled
Decisions for camps on and after June 29 will be made by June 1.
Virtual camps are a possibility, please fill out this interest form if your child is between the ages of 7 and 12.

Be well and stay safe. Hope to see you later this summer!

April 15 Announcement
We are all living each day with an unknown foreseeable future due to COVID-19. We hope you and your family are staying healthy, positive, and enjoying time with each other at home. Registration at TDS Summer Programs 2020 continues to be open in the hopes that we will be operating as usual starting on June 15th.

As of April 15th, we will continue accepting applications but will only charge the $20 one-time family registration fee for new applications. Until we make a final decision on summer operations due to COVID-19, we will not be processing tuition payments for new applications and additional camps. Also, if you have a pending balance, please refrain from paying in full until a final decision has been made. Normally, final payments are due on May 31st. We should know the summer camp status by then.

If you have an enrolled camper this year and would like to add camps, you may do so by written request via email. We have decided to cap the number of campers in each program to 8 for health and safety purposes. There are other considerations being made to provide the necessary safety for our participants, which is our main priority at TDS.

To read more about our camp policies, including adding and canceling camps, read the policies found below.

Our decision to close is contingent upon government and CDC advice. Here is a timeline of how we would determine camp closures:
Our teachers are given one month for preparation and planning for their camp(s). We have decided to notify you of closure at least one month in advance from the start of the participant’s camp date. That means registered campers for June 15-19 camps will be notified on May 15th. June 22-26 campers will be notified on May 22nd, and so forth.

We understand many families have been affected financially, and we also have uncertainty about when this situation will be resolved or under control. To ease you during this stressful and uncertain time, in the case of closure, we will provide a full tuition refund for each registered camper, minus a $10 administrative fee to cover our application and refund processing costs per camper. All refunds will be processed at one time for your family. The earliest you may receive your refund is early June with the latest being the beginning of July, depending on the last week your child registered for. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

I appreciate your flexibility and understanding of our pending decisions regarding summer programs due to COVID-19. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I wish you and your family health, peace, and positive energy during this time. You will be hearing from me again by May 15th.

Message from the Director

Our Summer Program’s goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment while offering opportunities for personal and social growth, exploration, and fun for all children ages four to fifteen. We promote a relaxed, easy-going, and friendly place for students in our community and the public. We offer a full-day summer program from early June through August. You may register for individual weeks or multiple weeks at a time.

Summers at TDS give children the opportunity to learn a new craft or hobby, enhance and develop existing skills, travel to local places, and make new friends.

We are committed to maintaining staff who are talented, passionate, and experienced working with children. Our staff consists of experts, artists, and educators from TDS and other local schools and programs. We also strive to create partnerships with local businesses, universities, and programs that offer fun, exceptional, and creative opportunities for our students.

Our hope is that your child leaves TDS feeling happy and full of great memories. For questions regarding our Summer Program, please contact me with any questions.
