Position Overview
Triangle Day School seeks an inspiring art teacher who is responsible for teaching art education to students in grades TK-5. This position also assists the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of art. This educator will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and creation of art pieces through a variety of media including drawing, painting, and sculpture. They will also collaborate with classroom teachers to create pieces and projects that are relevant to learning happening inside the classroom, including content, culture, and social-emotional concepts. Our art teacher will also perform other duties directly related to this job description.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teaches art to TK-5th grade including technique, appreciation, history, and tie-ins to curriculum in the classroom.
- Utilizes repertoire of many types of art, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Differentiate art curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class time.
- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students; keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned supplies, tools, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
- Collaborates with staff and faculty to contribute artistic elements to celebrations, festivals, and special events.
- Engage in regular supervisory duties including recess and lunch
- Attend regular faculty and grade-level meetings
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and through self-selected professional growth activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Arts Education or related field
- 3+ years of teaching experience with children ages 4-13
- Deep love for and knowledge of art education in the early childhood and elementary years
- Passion for nurturing the curiosity and creativity of students
- Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues across divisions and departments
- Familiarity with instructional technology both for teaching and communication
- Teaching certification (preferred, but not required)
Additional Details
- Ten-month year (August-June)
- Salary in accordance with certification and experience (estimated salary range of $45,000-60,000 per year)
- School contract hours run Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
