Position Overview
Triangle Day School is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated first grade teacher to join our elementary education team. TDS is committed to leadership in multicultural education and a culturally diverse faculty and staff. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Deliver instruction in an engaging, age-appropriate manner, prioritizing student engagement and student needs
- Collaborate with the lower elementary teaching team to implement innovative curricula in which academic and social-emotional growth are considered
- Create a warm and loving classroom environment that is conducive to learning
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Identify student needs and cooperate with administration, specialists, and teaching assistants in assessing and aiding in bringing students to their full potential
- Communicate effectively with parents through weekly newsletters, conferences, and report writing
- Engage in regular supervisory duties including recess and lunch
- Attend regular faculty and grade-level meetings
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and through self-selected professional growth activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education or related field required; post-graduate degree preferred
- 3+ years of teaching experience preferred
- Passion for nurturing the curiosity and creativity of students
- Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues across divisions and departments
- Familiarity with instructional technology, both for teaching and communication
- Creativity to make daily tasks interesting and enjoyable for children to help them learn new skills
- Resourcefulness to help explain information in a way that matches the student’s learning style
- Excellent communication skills with people of different ages and backgrounds, from parents and children to colleagues
- Patience to remain calm and positive while working with children of different developmental backgrounds
- Attention to detail to spot when a child is having difficulty with something or needs assistance
Additional Details
- Ten-month year (August-June)
- Salary in accordance with certification and experience (estimated salary range of $45,000-60,000 per year)
- School contract hours run Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
