Yesterday, the middle school had a presentation from Faye Alston, a civil rights activist who participated in the sit-in movement, and Danita Mason-Hogans, who is a member of Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies.

Our visitors shared information about the Triangle’s history of local civil rights activism, discussing events and figures such as the Chapel Hill Nine. Ms. Alston also answered student questions about her experiences with civil disobedience.

We were honored to have these visitors and grateful that our students got to learn more about our local history.
