Every day between 2:05 and 2:50, I have the privilege of attending my own private chimes concert in my classroom. Led by Ali Carnes, the chimes program at TDS supports two tracks of students: beginner chimes (Mondays and Wednesdays) and advanced chimes (Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Both classes provide a safe and creative outlet for our spirited Middle School students.

As this class meets during the very last period of the academic day, Ms. Carnes often faces 12, 13, and 14-year olds who are either exhausted or supremely energetic. Regardless, upon entering the classroom, it is imperative that students work together to make sure their notes are on time. For this reason, this class challenges students to really listen to each other. I would bet that, in many instances, there is more teamwork demonstrated within these 45 minutes than at any other point during the day. Moreover, Ms. Carnes is a patient and inspiring music teacher, and her dedication to helping these children meet their potential is unyielding.

As the winter music concert approaches, I can attest that each musical selection is sounding better and better. I look forward to December 14th when these students and their teacher showcase their hard work and musical talents to the rest of the TDS community. I hope they each beam with pride at a job well done.
