Students have numerous opportunities to improve their writing skills as they progress through Middle School. Emily Abramowitz has taken an additional step, submitting her written work in various competitions, and she has been twice rewarded for her courage and initiative.

Earlier this winter, Emily was declared a winner in the Sallie Markham Michie Trust Essay Contest. In her piece, she wrote from the perspective of a reporter interviewing Joseph Hewes of North Carolina about his experiences leading up to and including the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

More recently, Emily won first place in the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust’s Essay, Middle School Division. Her essay detailed her thoughts on the lessons learned from the Holocaust and the relevance of the Holocaust today. Emily will receive this award during a ceremony at Meredith College in early May.
